The Best Way to Camp in Cold Weather

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Camping in cold weather is not for those who are scared of the cold! It can also be challenging but with the proper sleeping gear and clothing, camping in cold weather can be an enjoyable at experience.

Bring the Correct Clothing

Clothing is very important when camping in cold weather – without the correct clothing the camping experience can be extremely poor or at worst life-threatening.

The most essential articles of clothing to pack before going to your site includes thermal long under ware, thermal or wool socks, ski jackets, heavy warm coats, insulated gloves, wool hats, thick turtleneck sweaters and sweat pants. Jeans are not advised.

Layering your clothing is also a good idea when camping in cold weather, so a lot of extra clothing should be brought with you, a good example might be long and short sleeved shirts, fleece jackets, long pants, wool scarves and extra socks. Clothing should not be skin tight when layering as loose fitting clothing can trap warm air and keep the body warmer.

Shoes and Boots

All shoes that are worn when camping should be insulated and waterproof and it is an excellent idea to avoid wearing tennis shoes or trainers because they will not provide much protection from the outdoor elements.

Hiking boots, or rubber boots worn over shoes are a beneficial option. Trousers should always be tucked inside the boots and for more protection duct tape can be taped around the trousers and the top of boots to keep out the cold and snow.

Type of Tent and Bedding to Use

The best type of tent to use at campsites in the winter is one that is designed for all weather conditions and that can be used in any seasons. The tent should be waterproof. The inside of the tent should be kept dry and with warmers.

When camping in cold weather your bedding is very important. If you are sleeping on the ground there should be at least two layers between the sleeping bag and the ground or an insulated padding should be used underneath the sleeping bag. To provide additional warmth the sleeping bag should be fleeced-lined and a wool blanket can be used inside the sleeping bag.

It is also important to keep the head warm when camping in the cold, so it;s recommended that a hat should be worn while sleeping. Also wool socks and thermal underwear should be worn when going to bed.

Camping at in cold weather is not for everyone but for individuals who are up to the challenge and who possess the proper clothing and gear, camping in the cold can be an enjoyable experience.

Enjoy Boating

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Have you ever enjoyed the pleasure of spending an afternoon boating on a lake or an ocean? If so, then you know how fun boating can be. You know that there is nothing quite like the feeling of being on the water and enjoying time in beautiful weather.

Boating is a great activity for many reasons. First, it is great because it allows people to be outside in the beauty of nature. There is no better way to spend a spring, summer or warm fall day than boating. Not only do you get to be outside, but you also get to enjoy being in and on the water. Boating enables you to enjoy the warmth and the sun. It is necessary and helpful for people to get outside and boating is one of the best ways to do that.

Boating also provides time for family and friends to gather and enjoy the company of one another. Busy families can get away from the rush of work and activities and enjoy a quiet day away from all distractions. Boating can be a perfect activity that combines rest, beauty and fun. Friends can come together for a day or a weekend and enjoy renewed friendship and conversation during a special boating trip.

A great thing about boating is that it includes several different ways to have fun. Boating allows you to enjoy the quiet and peace of anchoring at a spot on the water or you can enjoy the wind in your face as you speed from one side of the water to another. For many people, boating also means swimming, tubing, and even waterskiing. Once you are out on the water there are so many ways to enjoy the day. You can anchor the boat and spend hour after hour jumping into the water and swimming. More adventurous people will want to try out a tube or a waterski to enjoy boating even more. Some will love the thrill of watching the tubers or the waterskiers from the safety of the boat. Whatever water activities sound fun to you, boating is a great way to enjoy them all.

If you have never learned how to handle a boat you can take lessons and learn how to lead your friends or family in a boating adventure. If you do not own a boat and are not sure if purchasing one is right for you, look for a family member or friend to lend you theirs for a weekend boating excusion. In no time you will be so excited about boating that you will want to purchase your own. Your family and friends will look to you to provide the endless hours of outdoor fun that
boating is sure to provide.

Getting Fishing Tackle on the Internet Is Easy so Long as You Do Your Research Prior to Ordering

Writer Clinton J Veasey discusses where to find the best carp fishing tackle

Fishing is one of the most populat sports in the UK. A lot of people go on fishing trips regularly throughout the year. One of the most important things that you’ll need to buy is carp tackle and you should find a range of options online and in stores.

If you’re interested in buying carp tackle then there will be a few things that you’ll need to think about before you go shopping. Firstly, you’ll need to consider a budget for your purchases and it’s actually easier than you may have first thought, to work out how much you’ll need to spend.

Head over to your favourite search engine and search for products that you are interested in. Have a pen and paper with you and make a note of the prices as you look around. Once you have a list of prices you should easily be able to work out a reasonable and realistic budget.

Make sure that you have a pen and paper with you and make a note of the deals you see as you browse the web. You should also consider quality while you’re browsing because you want to ensure that the products you buy aren’t low quality and that they’ll last a few years at least.

It’s sometimes a good idea to head into your local fishing store to see what they have to offer. However, only do this when you’ve seen carp tackle online and you’re aware of what the good deals should look like. Also, make sure that you bear quality in mind.

Buying online will give you access to a larger range of products and should help you see a huge range of options compared to simply looking in one store. Usually, the best deals are available online so you should definitely prioritise your shopping to the online market.

Overall, as long as you do your research, buying carp tackle should be easy. It’s simple to find offers online but you’ll have to ensure that you keep your wits about you and look out for deals that could be too good to be true. Keep a pen and paper with you when you’re browsing online so that you can make a note of the offer that you like the look of.

Fly Fishing with Small Flies

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
If you have been fly fishing for long I am sure that you have picked up on the following two points:

1. Sometimes the biggest fish can be caught using the smallest flies.

2. Sometimes to hook a lot of fish you have to fish extremely fine tippet.

Both of these present problems for fly fishermen. If you’re fishing very small flies, the fish have the tendency to slip the hook very frequently. Also, if you’re fishing 6x tippet, it’s really easy to break the fish off.

I have won (and lost) my fair share of big fish and have figured out a few things that might help you out:

1. Get a reel with an extremely smooth drag. Always get the trout on the reel as fast as possible. You want to battle the fish on your reel. The smoothness of your drag is much more important than the type of rod you’re using or anything else. You can land a 26 inch trout that will make for some awesome fishing pictures on a three weight as long as you have good drag.

2. Don’t put too much pressure on the fish! Unfortunately you have to let them run. If you put too much pressure on the fish than you will pop the hook out, or even worse, break the fish off. The drag should be set tight enough so that it tires out the fish when they make a run, but loose enough that they can take out line without much pressure. Putting too much pressure too fast is the surest way to loose a big fish when fishing small flies with fine tippet.

3. Keep your rod tip high in the air. The trout are less likely to slip the hook.

4. If the fish starts jumping and splashing around than lower your rod tip and give the fish some slack.

Landing large fish on small flies and fine tippet requires tremendous skill (and some luck) but it certainly can be done. You can catch a ton of fish this way and it’s very rewarding.
